Next lecture 9 DecemberMr Duignan’s talk will be very much a personal reflection, as he looks back on his career in journalism and some of the stories from Kerry that he covered. The lecture is part of the programme of events for the Museum’s ‘Kerry Lives’ exhibition. The exhibition explores the social history of the county using images taken from the collection of Padraig and Joan Kennelly, who recorded every aspect of life in Kerry from the 1950s to the 1970s. The lecture series is an opportunity to broaden and deepen the exhibition, and the Museum is very grateful for funding from the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport. Each day long session includes lots of fun activities at the museum and a children’s performance in
Siamsa Tíre. The activities in the Museum (storytelling, lantern and talisman making, spooky treasure trail to name just a few) remain the same each day, but the performance at Siamsa Tíre changes. So pick the day that suits you best! A full day ticket costs €15 and covers entry to all workshops and that day’s performance. Children should bring along a packed lunch. All tickets can be booked at the Siamsa Tíre Box Office (066 7123055) or on-line at www.siamsatire.com.
News from the Book Club23/8/10 updated by Claudia
Our three groups have met last week and following books were chosen:
Wednesday Group 2 : Tomm Moore's The Secret of Kells
Wednesday Group 3: Enid Blyton's Shock for the Secret 7
Friday Group 1: Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox
I contacted Tralee library and there are a couple of copies available but it might take some time to order them from other branches. Enid Blyton's book are available cheaply second hand from Amazon, whilst The Secret of Kells was just published this year and retails more expensively at €12.95. If you are stuck completely please let me know and I can photocopy the Museum's copy of the book. Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox is avalable from www.amazon.co.uk with prieces starting at £2.57 + £2.75 delivery. Once we have established a list of books it will be possible to pre-order them at Tralee Library but they need about 3 week's notice in general. Please don't hesitate to call me or send me an email at education@kerrymuseum.ie if you have any questions.
Next meetings:
Wednesday Group 2: Wednesday 8th September at 3pm
Wednesday Group 3: Wednesday 8th September at 4pm
Friday Group 1: Friday 10th September at 4pm
